Just got pulled over earlier, cop took my license?

aight i just got ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt and driving an uninsured vehicle. i had an insurance card on me but it was expired and i didnt know where the new one was in my car, so he said the insurance company would drop that citation. butt when i drove off i notice he only gave me the tickets not my license. and i gotta go to court. i have only been pulled over 2 times including now, both for seatbelt infractions. what will they say to me at court
