Seat Belt Laws: HUGE infringement of personal liberty?

I understand that it's crazy not to wear your seatbelt....but is it really the role of govt to protect me from myself? Are they going to pass jacket laws for the winter to protect me from pneumonia...sunscreen laws to protect me from skin cancer .....sunglass laws to protect my eyes. Shouldn't laws protect people from other people's bad decisions....not protect people from their own bad decisions??......
