As long as he can show that he had a valid prescription for the painkillers at the time of the incident, the chances are VERY GOOD the charges will be dropped. The only thing they may have an issue with is whether he was using the painkillers while he was driving, and if he was that could be a problem (driving under the influence of controlled substances).
